Demonstrating Care: The Art of Integrative Nursing

During the past decades in nursing, there has been a tremendous emphasis on the mastery of biomedical and technical skills and less emphasis on the development of the caring arts. In this changing climate, how do nurses find a balance between providing care that includes both technical, biomedical skills and caring modalities? This book, published in 2001 to introduce a healing relationship model for "integrative nursing" practice looks at the way nurses historically have demonstrated care and how caring modalities now referred to as "complementary therapies" have been used. By reestablishing a connection to the past, students, nurses, and clinicians can integrate complementary therapies into present day nursing practice that has become highly technical. This integration is essential in meeting the public's call for complementary therapies.
