The Handbook of Emotions for the Helping Professions

The second edition of The Handbook of Emotions for the Helping Professions—previously titled The Handbook of Counseling and Emotions—has been significantly reorganized to create a focus on the role of emotions within the helping professions.

The second edition is organized into two distinct parts. Part I, titled “Your Emotional World,” explores different theoretical perspectives for understanding emotions. Part II is titled “Emotion Regulation.” Emotion regulation (ER) is described in terms of what it is and why it matters, as well as how ER varies across culture, age, and gender. An in-depth overview of how emotion regulation strategies can be used to understand and treat mental disorders such as bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, personality disorders, and schizophrenia is also provided.
