Raíces: Una aproximación comunicativa intercultural a la lengua española, Volumen dos is a communicative-based, learner-centric book designed to give Spanish 102 students opportunities to develop and practice Spanish in everyday situations.

Each chapter of the book features distinct sections—a) ¡A empezar!, b) ¡A conversar!, c) ¡A escuchar!, d) ¡A escribir!, and e) ¡A leer!— to help develop the students’ five language skills: writing, reading, speaking, listening, and cultural awareness. At the end of each lesson, is included Perspectiva cultural and ¡A pronunciar! or Ortografía. The text offers a variety of interactive and communicative exercises such as tongue-twisters, crosswords, riddles, real world tasks, role play, reading excerpts, short film discussion questions, and other listening exercises.

Students learn how to use reflexive verbs, comparatives, and superlatives; talk about clothing and shopping; use present progressive; talk about local and Hispanic dishes; use indefinite and negative words; and much more.

With emphases on practical application, conversational Spanish, and cultural understanding, this text is the second volume in a three-book series developed to help foster students’ language acquisition and speaking ability.
